CONGRATULATIONS TO DACOTAH-VICTORIA ON HER UBC PUBLIC SCHOLAR AWARD AND MITACS-ACCELERATE RESEARCH AWARD!

EDGES member Dacotah-Victoria is a new UBC Public Scholar. Dacotah’s PSI (Public Scholars Initiative) award will support her co-designed community partner engagement project, “Examining the Museum of Rain Theatre project: Exploring narratives of water (in)security in British Columbia”. For this project, Dacotah is collaborating with the Vancouver based-theatre production company, The Only Animal to illuminate diverse experiences of water (in)security and relationships with water in BC. The organization will incorporate the lived narratives of British Columbians into a public play to be produced over the coming two years.

In addition to her PSI award, Dacotah is a MITACS-Accelerate Research Award recipient. With this grant, Dacotah carried out a summer graduate internship working with the Institute of Fisheries and Oceans at UBC, the University of Victoria, and Ocean Canada. Serving as the lead on the West Coast “Fisheries Access Survey,” Dacotah traveled up the length of BC’s coast, chatting with over 100 commercial fishermen about their perceptions of their access “these days.”
