Danika Kleiber

I am a feminist biologist fascinated by the intersection of gender and environment research.  I have just started a joint three-year Postdoctroal Research position with the ARC Center of Excellence in Coral Reef Studies, and WorldFish. I will be based in Townsville, Australia and working at James Cook University where I will be working on integrating gender into coastal fisheries programs in the Pacific, as well as continuing my research on gender and small-scale fisheries governance.

I completed my PhD in the Resource Management and Environmental Studies Department in 2014 with a dissertation titled “Gender and small-scale fisheries in the Central Philippines.” Prior to joining the doctoral program, I received an MSc from the UBC forest sciences department studying the behaviour ecology of female song sparrows (2008), and a BSc from Tufts University with a double major in women’s studies and biology (2002).  In between degrees UC Berkeley hired me to chase western bluebirds around Carmel Valley, California.  In my spare time I weave and teach comprehensive sexuality education to teenagers and their parents.
