I am a trans/nonbinary refugee from the land of the Huetar people (so-called Costa Rica). I am currently pursuing a Master’s degree at the Institute for Gender, Race, Sexuality, and Social Justice at the University of British Columbia. I have a deep and personal commitment to social justice, focusing on the lived experiences of equity-seeking communities, particularly those of forced migrants and gender-diverse individuals. My research explores how play serves as a safe and transformative space for exploring identity, agency, and resistance beyond arbitrary categories. As someone navigating multiple borders: geographic, cultural, and gendered, I bring a transdisciplinary and decolonial perspective to my work. Through research, activism, and storytelling, I aim to amplify the voices often left at the margins and to envision futures grounded in joy, dignity, and collective care.
