Elan is a Master’s student at the Institute for Resources, Environment and Sustainability, and a member of the EDGES Research Collaborative. Under the joint supervision of Dr. Terre Satterfield and Dr. Leila Harris, her research explores Indigenous community-based monitoring and issues of marine sovereignty in the context of energy transitions projects.
Elan holds a BA & Sc. in Environment (Honours) from McGill University. Prior to beginning her Master’s, Elan worked in environmental planning and decision analysis. Much of her work focused on supporting Indigenous communities in their governance and stewardship initiatives, in areas including watershed planning, water co-governance, cumulative effects monitoring and management, and climate adaptation planning. Elan is also a trained facilitator, and enjoys helping diverse groups of people build collaborative relationships to address environmental problems.
Outside of academia, you can find Elan riding her bike, playing her fiddle, making and mending clothes and outdoor gear, and climbing/skiing/hiking/camping.
